 \nWe begin our season outdoors\, with a play about the experiences of high
  school girls at their weekly Saturday morning pre-game soccer warmups. De
 Lappe’s play covers global politics\, social gossip\, body image\, anxie
 ty and mental health\, and the power of human community in overcoming grie
 f and tragedy. Staged outdoors\, we hope to draw the CSU campus to theatre
  with this example of hyperrealism\, directed by Prof. Saffron Henke.\n\nS
 pring Awakening — Music by Duncan Sheik\; book/lyrics by Steve Sater (2
 006)\nDirected by Noah Racey\nUniversity Theatre\n\nOur musical\, which wi
 ll now occur in Fall to allow for a Spring opera\, is a musical adaptation
  of Frank Wedekind’s 1891 play about adolescent sexuality\, human emotio
 ns\, and attempts at love. Set in 19th century Germany\, in this punk rock
  coming-of-age story teenagers wrestle with the inner and outer nuances of
  life as they lose their innocence and come to terms with adulthood.\n\nSh
 owcase: TH451 Acting IV (Class Showcase)\n\nThe Normal Heart by Larry Kram
 er (1985)\nDirected by Wesley Longacre\nStudio Theatre\n\nSet against the 
 rise of the HIV/AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s\, this cla
 ssic AIDS drama is the story of writer/activist Ned Weeks (Kramer)\, the g
 ay founder of a prominent HIV advocacy group. This heartfelt piece of real
 ism explores dissenting tactics used to speak truth to power in the Reagan
  era and what it means to fall in love in times of crisis.\n\nMachinal by 
 Sophie Treadwell (1928)\nDirected by Debbie Swann\nUniversity Theatre\n\nW
 e end our season with a gem of an expressionist play by one of the 20th ce
 ntury’s most provocative female playwrights. Inspired by the real-life c
 ase of convicted and executed murderer Ruth Snyder\, Treadwell’s play ex
 plores the conformist pressures patriarchy imposes on women…and what hap
 pens when enough is enough.\n\nOn The Brink Reading Series\nCurated by Saf
 fron Henke\nLivestream/On-demand\n\nOn the Brink explores works representi
 ng a variety of underrepresented voices and perspectives and brings guests
  artists and students into productive collaboration.
