Biography

Jay Duckworth boasts more than 46 years’ experience in League of Resident Theatre (LORT), Off-Broadway, and Broadway theatre with numerous Off-Broadway show credits as a props master and props designer. The roll call of shows for which he has created original work, include Hamilton, Fun Home, Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson, Road Show, Here Lies Love, Latin History for Morons, Sea Wall/A Life, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf, and NYC’s Shakespeare in the Park from his more than a decade residency at The Public Theater under artistic director Oskar Eustis. As well as being a consultant to The Guinness World Records and writer for American Theater Magazine and Stage Directions magazine, he teaches online at Pace University. Duckworth was a keynote speaker for USITT in 2017, and curated USITT’s first Prop Lab in 2018. He has worked with the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) since 2011 adjudicating, heading workshops, and speaking on panels, as well as being keynote speaker in several regions. Professor Duckworth also has a strong online presence as "proptologist" on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
