CSU Theatre instructor Zhanna Gurvich was recently named the new general manager of Bas Bleu Theatre. Founded in 1992, Bas Bleu Theatre is modeled after the great 18th century European literary salons known as the “Bluestockings” (or Bas Bleu) whose members fostered animated conversation about politics, art, theatre, music, and works of literature.
Professor Gurvich will also design the scenery for Bas Bleu’s upcoming production of Beyond Therapy, which runs Dec. 2-18, 2022.
Zhanna Gurvich has been working in theatre, opera, dance, and corporate events for more than 30 years. Her Broadway credits include Shrek with John Lithgow, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom with Whoopie Goldberg, and Gypsy with Bernadette Peters. Zhanna has worked at some of the top performance venues in the country, including Hartford Stage, Berkeley Rep, Baltimore Center Stage, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Joyce Theatre, and several Las Vegas Hotels. Currently Zhanna teaches design and arts management at Colorado State University, and designs sets and lights at local theatres. She is delighted to be back at Bas Bleu in a new role to help guide the company through its next evolutionary stage. Ms. Gurvich received an HOLA Award for Outstanding Set Design for her work on La Llorona. Ms Gurvich is a member of United Scenic Artists Local 829 and holds a B.F.A. in Studio Art from Clark University, as well as an M.F.A. in Stage Design from Southern Methodist University, with a concentration in scenery and lighting design.
