Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl

Directed by Kaily Anderson

March 27, 28, 8 p.m., March 29, 2 p.m.

Eurydice is a modern reworking of the Greek myth by the same name by playwright Sarah Ruhl. In the original myth, while mourning the death of his wife Eurydice, Orpheus plays such beautiful music that he receives permission from the Gods to go to the underworld and bring her back. As it goes with Greek God’s, there is the stipulation that he may not turn for a last look as they walk back to the mortal world; he does, of course, and ends up losing her forever. This version of the play takes the basic story frame and characters placing them in a semi-surreal, more modern world in order to explore themes of grief, loss, family, love, passion, and youth in a relevant way. The production is a student thesis project and will be directed, designed, and performed by students.
