Directed by Walt Jones
Evil Dead: The Musical is a Canadian pop rock musical stage play based on the cult classic horror Evil Dead film series that launched the directing career of then 20-year old Sam Raimi. This outrageous campy satire first was first performed on stage in 2003 as a cabaret at the Tranzac Club in Toronto, the show became an instant hit and eventually moved on to an off-Broadway run in 2006 followed by hundreds of regional and international productions of the show. Critics praised the show and one critic for The New York Times called it “the next Rocky Horror Show.” Even more campy and over-the-top than the Evil Dead cult film franchise, Evil Dead: The Musical stands proudly alongside Reefer Madness: The Musical, Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical, and Hairspray as questionable artistic achievements.
Evil Dead: The Musical will feature unique costumes by CSU Costume Shop Supervisor Janelle Sutton, who says her inspiration for the original costumes came from the Evil Dead films, Walking Dead, Night of the Living Dead, Cabin in the Woods, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Her costumes depict a bold diversity; “You’ll see every kind of zombie you could imagine and some you couldn’t.”
Each performance also include a special cameo by prominent figures from Colorado State University and the Fort Collins community. Purchase or upgrade to the “Splash Zone” for only $10 at the Box Office.

“[My interest for the play came from] confronting the challenge to do the self-referential musical as written: super cheesy and massively tongue-in-cheek—almost tongue-‘through’-cheek,” while also “try to do what the original 1979-80 film set out to do—scare.” – Walt Jones, Director
