What is the Musical Theatre Summer Intensive?
Colorado State University’s Musical Theatre program—an exciting new star in undergraduate arts education for the region—invites High School students to participate in a rigorous two-week intensive.
Led by CSU’s award-winning faculty and distinguished Broadway veterans, this program offers aspiring performers the rare opportunity to refine their technique while cultivating an authentic creative voice. Pairing professional excellence with academic rigor, this intensive strengthens skills that not only prepare High School students for success in the industry but also highlight CSU’s role as a leader in musical theatre training.

Program Director
Noah Racey leads CSU’s explosive new Musical Theatre program with the heart of a teacher and the experience of a Broadway performer and creator. Seen in the original casts of Millie, Curtains, Never Gonna Dance, and more, he’s a nationally acclaimed actor, director, and choreographer. Noah trains young artists to approach their work with curiosity, joy, and a dedicated work ethic.
Music Director
Hannah Swanson is a music director, educator, pianist, and organist. She has vast experience collaborating with vocalists and coaching from the piano. Theatre is at the heart of her passion, and Hannah brings devotion and strong pedagogy to musical theatre.
Voice Instructor
After an illustrious career on Broadway, Patty Goble now shares with her students the vast knowledge she gained working with the most respected directors, choreographers and actors in the field of musical theatre. Her teaching philosophy is to keep the passion alive.
2026 Guest Artist
Actor, Playwright, and Screenwriter Rodney Hicks is a Broadway powerhouse, originating roles in Rent, Come from Away, The Scottsboro Boys, and more. Known for his artistry and excellence, he brings decades of experience on stage and screen. As a guest artist, Rodney inspires the next generation with insight, passion, and heart.
Audition Requirements and Application
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: March 9
To start the registration process for the CSU Musical Theatre Summer Intensive (MTSI), you must submit your materials for consideration to CLA_MTSI@colostate.edu by March 9. Once you have been accepted to MTSI, you will receive a promo code and a link to register.
Audition Requirements
To be considered for MTSI, each applicant must submit the following materials:
- Link to a video recording of you singing one musical theatre song, no more than 90 seconds in length. Please sing a song from a musical theatre show, not a pop/rock or commercial piece. The best format is to upload your video to YouTube and send us a link to view it.
- Written Reflection (one-page minimum, two-page maximum): Explain why you are a good candidate for this Intensive. Things to consider:
- Describe your previous experience.
- What are your aspirations as a performer?
- What skills would you like to strengthen in this Intensive?
Scholarship Request
If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, either merit- or need-based, please download and complete the MTSI Scholarship Form and submit it with your materials.
Send these materials to cla_MTSI@colostate.edu before the March 9th submission deadline. Applicants will be notified by March 27.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation Fee: $50
Cancellation requests must be made to CSU Conference & Event Services at least 21 days prior to the first day of the Intensive. A full refund minus a $50 administrative/cancellation fee can be expected in these cases. Cancellations made within 7-21 days of the first day of the Intensive may be eligible for a partial refund if the spot can be filled by someone on the waitlist. If your spot can be filled in this manner, your cancellation will be processed, and you will be issued a 50% refund. Cancellations made within one week (seven days) of Intensive start date or after the first day of the Intensive are not eligible for refunds.
