CSU senior Annabelle Gauthier was among the USITT announced winners for their 2025 Young Designers, Managers and Technicians (YDMT) Awards. Gauthier, who dual majors in Psychology and Theatre with a Design & Technology Concentration, was awarded the USITT Stage Management Award.
The United States Institute for Theatre Technology Inc. (USITT), website states “USITT was founded in 1960 as an organization to promote dialogue, research, and learning among practitioners of theatre design and technology.” Each year USITT and Clear Com host a national competition. Those competing provide examples of their work and as the website states, “demonstrate clear execution regarding artistic and technical choices, process, and product.”
Gauthier’s credits include stage managing Everybody (2024), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (2023), 2024 Spring Dance Capstone, and assistant stage managing The Wolves (2022), The Tender Land (2023), and 2024 Spring Dance Concert. In addition to her work at CSU, Gauthier has completed a technical apprenticeship at the Santa Fe Opera.
CSU Theatre productions of: Everybody by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee by Rachel Sheinkin and William Finn, The Wolves by Sarah DeLappe, and 2024 Spring Dance Concert.
“Annabelle brings a unique combination of calm, quiet, confidence, with a focus on a 'people first' managing style,” said Matt Grevan, instructor and production stage manager at CSU. “This allows her to manage artistic visions while connecting with directors, designers, and performers easily.”
Gauthier thanked Grevan for being her stage management mentor at CSU and for investing in her growth and success. “His advice, support, and belief in my ability has been invaluable,” said Gauthier.
This is the second year in a row a CSU stage manager has won the competition, with theatre major Annie Hennen winning in 2024.
“It is inspiring to be recognized for work that I love to do, and I look forward to continuing to learn and grow,” Gauthier said. “Thanks to USITT and to the incredible stage managers I have had the pleasure to work alongside during this journey."
The YDMT winners were honored at the USITT25 Conference in Columbus, Ohio, on Thursday, March 6th, during the Awards, Awards, Awards ceremony.
