• Acting: Prepare two contrasting monologues totaling no more than four minutes. Students auditioning in person will perform the same two monologues for faculty AND upload a video recording of the same monologues with the application.
• Optional (Performance and Musical Theatre Concentrations): You are welcome to include one extra video (direct upload or YouTube/Vimeo link with exact time code is acceptable) under one of the following categories.
  • A video from a performance (singing, dancing, and/or acting) that took place within the previous 18 months. (No more than two minutes in length.)
  • A “Wild Card” video (a special skill, unique dance style or contemporary dance, an instrumental performance, etc.).
• Interview: A portion of the audition includes an interview with the performance faculty.
• Supporting Materials:
  • Resumé: Upload your resumé, which includes any training and experience you have had in theatre, music, and dance, as well as academic honors, work experience, and community service.
  • Photograph: Upload a recent picture; a resumé headshot or a graduation portrait are preferred, otherwise take your photograph against a neutral background.
  • Personal Statement: Upload a short (1 page single-spaced) essay outlining your relevant experience. Please consider these three questions:
    • What interests you about the performance degree and CSU Theatre
    • What skills, interests, and experiences would you like to have or develop here?
    • If you met yourself five years from now, what would you want that person to have learned, or how would they have grown?

If you are auditioning in person, you will deliver the two contrasting monologues and complete your interview. the optional video, personal statement, resume, and photograph will all be uploaded with your application.

If you are auditioning virtually, you will upload your two contrasting monologues, the optional video, personal statement, resume, and photograph with your application. Once your application is complete, you will schedule an interview with the performance faculty. The interview will take place on Zoom and a link will be provided.

• Acting: Prepare one (1) one-minute contemporary monologue. The monologue must be memorized, should be performed in the context of the entire play, and the material should be appropriate for your age and experience. Students auditioning in person will perform the monologue for faculty AND upload a video recording of the same monologue with the application. Please label your video with the title of the play; the monologue should be from an existing play.
• Singing: Prepare two selections of musical theatre repertoire, one ballad and one uptempo, that contrast in style. Each cut should be at least 32 bars each, with a 2-4 bar piano introduction, but should not exceed ~one minute in length. Both songs must be memorized, and one should be written before 1965. Prepare your video audition by singing with recorded or live accompaniment, not a cappella. Students auditioning in person will sing these two selections for faculty AND upload a video recording of the same two selections with the application. Please edit the cuts together into one video file. Please label your video with the title of both songs. Please bring your sheet music to in-person auditions; live accompaniment will be provided.
• Movement: Prepare choreography (less than one minute) that showcases your movement ability, set to a musical theatre song (either lyrics or instrumental is acceptable). The movement demonstration must be submitted via video with your application. Movement videos must be recorded in one take from start to finish, without cuts or edits. Students auditioning in person will not present their choreography during the in-person session.

The movement video, optional video, personal statement, resume, and photograph will all be uploaded with your application. Once your application is complete, you will be prompted to schedule an in-person session time with the musical theatre faculty. In-person auditions are required for students living in Northern Colorado or the Denver metro area. If you are an out-of-state applicant or live outside of Northern Colorado and the Denver metro area, you are welcome to audition in person or virtually. In person applicants must upload all audition materials and videos.

If you are auditioning virtually, you will upload your monologue, singing selections, movement video, optional video, personal statement, resume, and photograph with your application. Once your application is complete, you will be prompted to schedule an interview with the musical theatre faculty. The interview will take place on Zoom and a link will be provided. The virtual audition option is reserved for out-of-state applicants, and Colorado applicants living outside of Northern Colorado, and the Denver metro area, or under extenuating circumstances. Students applying to design and technology concentrations must interview with theatre faculty prior to entrance into the program. Faculty members want to get to know you, and the interview is a fantastic opportunity for you to ask questions about the degree.

Once you have uploaded your application and supporting materials, you will schedule a virtual interview with the design and technology faculty. The interview will be on Zoom, and a link will be provided.

• Resumé: Upload your resumé, which includes any training and experience you have had in theatre, music, and dance, as well as academic honors, work experience, and community service.
• Personal Statement: Upload a short (up to one page, single-spaced) essay describing what you hope to gain as a CSU Theatre major. Tell us about your creative experience and why you are applying to our program.

Portfolio Review for Scholarship Consideration: Prospective design and technology students who wish to be considered for a scholarship must also submit a portfolio for review. Please submit your portfolio with your Theatre application in Acceptd. The portfolio is not required for admittance into the Design and Technology concentrations and is for scholarship consideration only.

• Digital Portfolio: The digital portfolio should be submitted as a PDF or Word file, slideshow, or website.
  • The portfolio demonstrates the student's experience and understanding of one or more of the following: theatrical productions, art, making, and/or design.
  • Examples should be visual or aural work that indicates the student's aesthetic as an artist.
  • A personal introduction to the portfolio is encouraged.
